St. Monica Catholic Community is honored to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity by sponsoring volunteer builds in various locations in Southern California as well as in other states and countries.
We sponsor local volunteer builds, typically one Saturday per month between October and May. Everyone is welcome to participate! No experience or special skill is necessary—Habitat will provide the tools, and you will receive any necessary construction guidance on the builds themselves. Over the past few years, our local teams have contributed to home-building projects in the Los Angeles area, the San Fernando Valley, and Ventura County. We even participated in an unforgettable event—a Key Ceremony, which is the chance to welcome a family into their new home for the first time.
In addition to our local builds, we have also sponsored volunteer builds in places with great need for affordable housing: New Orleans, Louisiana; Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico; and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
To help support all these efforts and those of the St. Monica Catholic Community in general, we host an annual community party and participate in parish events.

News from St. Monica Habitat for Humanity
Supporting the Habitat for Humanity Mission
St. Monica and Habitat for Humanity have been partnering for many years helping to build and repair homes for families here in Los Angeles, throughout the U.S. and around the world. Recently, St Monica was thrilled to secure two, $25,000 grants for Habitat’s mission here in Los Angeles.
The 1st $25,000 grant came through the Called to Renew program and will help allow St. Monica volunteers to build 8 new affordable homes in Long Beach for hard-working low-income families starting this fall. Watch for details on the Volunteer Build.
The 2nd was part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ wildfire relief fund and will support the Habitat ReBUILD LA campaign focused on helping low to moderate income Eaton and Palisades wildfire survivors with smoke remediation, home repairs, rebuilds, and gap finance assistance.
We thank Chris Untiet, Director of Faith Relations, Habitat LA ; Merrick Siebenaler, Director of Parish Life at St. Monica; and Karen Krishfeld and Lorilyn Failor, St. Monica Habit for Humanity team chairs, for their work on securing these grants.
World Habitat Day is right around the corner.
In 1985 the United Nations designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day. The idea is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat. St. Monica Habitat for Humanity Team will celebrate World Habitat Day on Sunday, October 12. Stop by and visit them in the Grand Pavilion patio from 8:30am to 1pm. They will have on hand information on Habitat for Humanity and upcoming projects.

The follow-up Habitat ReBUILD LA wildfire recovery information session for congregations and community leaders interested in being involved will be held right here at St. Monica on Saturday, October 25th at St. Monica in the Caruso Center A and B from 2:00-4:00 PM. RSVP your attendance to Chris Untiet at [email protected].
